Rezvani Vengeance: The SUV armed to instill fear in the streets of America

Resembling a visionary creation from Elon Musk’s imagination, the Vengeance SUV boasts an imposing appearance, featuring bold and angular contours. This extraordinary vehicle is the latest innovative creation from Rezvani Motors, based in Irvine, California. Founded in 2014 by Ferris Rezvani, whose father served as an F4 Phantom fighter pilot in the Iranian air force, the company was born out of Rezvani Jr’s aspiration to replicate the exhilarating sensation of high-speed flight on the ground, after being unable to pursue a career as a pilot due to health constraints. In addition to this pursuit, it appears that Rezvani Jr also has a penchant for military-inspired role play. The company’s initial car models were named Beast and Tank, with the Vengeance conceived as a more accessible “younger sibling” to the latter.

This formidable and weaponized SUV is designed to target not military personnel, but everyday mothers. A TikTok video that went viral, created by the family car reviewer @mobile_mama, showcases a mother enthusiastically sharing the features of the SUV, such as the pepper spray mirrors – her personal favorite, as well as the inclusion of bulletproof vests, helmets, and gas masks. With a playful tone, she mentions that the vehicle’s design was influenced by a video game designer, suggesting that it would appeal to children. She questions whether the Rezvani Vengeance is the safest choice for mothers and their kids, albeit with a cautionary note to avoid accidentally pepper-spraying them.

While this massively powerful SUV may appear extreme and out of the ordinary, it actually represents a broader trend of ordinary consumer vehicles in the United States being transformed into high-performance machines with deadly capabilities. With its tactical weaponry and a style that caters to paranoia, the Vengeance is at least upfront about its intentions.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, drivers operating SUVs are two to three times more likely to cause a pedestrian fatality in a collision compared to driving a standard car. A study conducted in Michigan revealed that at speeds ranging from 20 to 39 mph, 30% of SUV crashes resulted in the death of a pedestrian, while the percentage for car crashes was 23%. At speeds of 40 mph or higher, all SUV crashes led to pedestrian fatalities, while the figure for car crashes was 54%.

The reason behind this heightened danger lies in basic physics: SUVs pose a greater threat due to their significantly greater weight, taller front ends, and reduced visibility. While a typical car usually strikes a pedestrian’s legs, propelling them onto the hood, an SUV strikes the upper torso or head and subsequently crushes them beneath its wheels.

The American fascination with super-sizing everything, from fast food meals to large houses, has unsurprisingly contributed to the surge in sales of ever-larger and heavier vehicles. Some reports indicate that SUVs and pickup trucks account for 80% of all car sales in the United States. During my visit to the Ford factory in Detroit in 2019, I was informed that the company had completely ceased manufacturing compact cars in the US.

The correlation between the rise in SUV sales and the alarming increase in pedestrian fatalities is not coincidental. According to a report by the Governors Highway Safety Association, pedestrian deaths have soared by 54% over the past decade. While cars have become safer for those inside them, the same cannot be said for pedestrians, cyclists, or motorcyclists. This is a uniquely American problem, as other similarly developed countries have witnessed a decline in traffic-related fatalities in recent years, while the US stands alone with an increase, even during the pandemic.

SUVs are also contributing to another perilous issue as some of the world’s most significant polluters. Recent findings revealed that SUVs are the second-largest contributor to the global increase in carbon dioxide emissions over the past decade, surpassing emissions from shipping, aviation, heavy industry, and even trucks. If all SUV drivers were to form their own nation, let’s say the “Republic of Vengeance,” it would rank as the seventh-largest emitter of greenhouse gases worldwide.

Nevertheless, with their protective armor, dazzling lights, and smoke screens at the ready, and equipped with gas masks, at least the children will feel safe during their journey home from school.

To reiterate, the Vengeance is a customized 2023 Cadillac Escalade that has undergone extensive modifications by Rezvani Motors, rendering the original vehicle unrecognizable from its exterior.

The Vengeance boasts a completely revamped body design, reminiscent of a civilian version of a military MRAP armored vehicle. Its robust and aggressive styling includes a hood with four integrated lights, redesigned headlights, a modified grille, and a heavy-duty bumper with tow hooks. The vehicle can be coated in Stealth Gray Satin paint or any of the other seven exterior colors available in either satin or gloss finish. For an additional $7,500, a camouflage paint option is offered. The militaristic ensemble is complemented by standard 22-inch wheels outfitted with 35-inch tires.

Inside, the Vengeance offers luxurious features such as heated and ventilated leather seats. While certain elements of the Escalade’s original design are still visible, such as the curved OLED digital dash, a 360-degree camera system, a Head-Up Display (HUD), a Rear Camera Mirror, Active Parking Assist, and GM Super Cruise, the overall interior has likely been modified to suit the Vengeance’s unique identity.

While the Rezvani Vengeance possesses a distinct visual identity, at its core, it remains based on the Cadillac Escalade. It shares the same foundation, utilizing the GM T1 platform, which initially debuted in 2019 for General Motors’ full-size pickup trucks, including the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado. Subsequently, this platform was adopted for GM’s lineup of full-size SUVs, encompassing the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and the aforementioned Escalade and Escalade ESV.

In terms of powertrain options, the Vengeance offers the same choices as the Escalade. The standard engine is the 6.2L V8 EcoTec3 L87, delivering 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Optional engines include the 3.0L I-6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine, generating 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, as well as the supercharged 6.2L Small Block V8 LT4 engine from the Escalade-V, producing an impressive 682 horsepower and 653 pound-feet of torque. Irrespective of the chosen engine, all Vengeance models utilize GM’s ten-speed automatic transmission for smooth shifting performance.

  2. The Security Package, available at $62,000, offers a more simplified version of the Military Package. It includes run-flat tires, reinforced suspension, pepper spray dispensers, magnetic dead bolts, and gas masks.
  3. The Heavy Duty Tow Package, priced at $3,500, enhances the towing capacity of the vehicle to 8,500 pounds.
