Omega Swatch Limited Edition Mission to the Moon. The $260 Swatch-Omega MoonSwatch is bringing the budget brand back to life.
The MoonSwatch is a version inspired by the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, which was worn by Buzz Aldrin during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969 and is famous for being the first wristwatch on the Moon.
The MoonSwatch version of the Speedmaster is made of plastic and bioceramics and comes in 11 colors, each representing one of the planets in our solar system: the moon, the sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Despite being launched over seven months ago, the MoonSwatch remains relatively hard to come by.
Omega and Swatch have already created what kids say threatens to break the internet. As the brand itself puts it, “we follow the popular trend of luxury and street brands working together to create innovative new products that combine the best of both worlds.” Source: esquire.com
Omega (which includes Swatch) is the No. 3 Ranking Luxury watch brand by sales in 2022. It was in the No. 2 Rank in 2019 and 2020.
Omega Swatch – Highly in demand and so difficult to find
In its semi-annual report published in July, the Swatch Group, which also owns luxury watch subsidiary Omega, said MoonSwatch contributed to a 7.4% increase in overall company sales, adding about US$3.6 billion.
MoonSwatch demand, which is increasing day by day in the market, far exceeds the products currently available,” the report said.”Shortly after delivery, these products are already sold out.” Since its launch, the popularity of the Moonswatch has also sparked renewed interest in Omega’s luxury version of the watch. We were facing a supply shortage as demand surged,” the report said.
The MoonSwatch’s difficult availability has led to inflated resale prices on watch sites such as eBay and Chrono24, with some versions of the watch selling for over $4,000. Source: Quartz
Omega Swatch on the Limited Edition
This is what the Swatch Group says about Omega Swatch Limited Edition and its latest Bioceramic Moon Swatch Collection.
“These playful tributes to the planets celebrate the collaboration between the plucky company that saved the Swiss Watchmaking industry and the iconic maker of the Speedmaster Moonwatch. What takes this collection into orbit is the fusion of the most innovative Swatch BIOCERAMIC material with the key Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch design elements. There’s the asymmetrical case, the iconic ‘dot over ninety’ on the tachymeter scale, and the distinctive Speedmaster subdials.
All dials feature the OMEGA X SWATCH branding, the iconic Speedmaster logo, and the new MoonSwatch logo. A closer look at the glass construction reveals the “hidden” ‘S’ integrated in the center of the crystal. The circular pattern on the dial’s outer ring and subdials bring a refined touch to the design, complementing the sharp and smooth lugs construction. The hours, minutes, chronograph seconds hands, and hour markers sport Super-LumiNova for a perfect glow in the dark.“
About Swatch Group
“Founded in 1848, Omega is a watch brand synonymous with excellence, innovation and precision. The company has constantly been defined by its pioneering spirit, demonstrated by its conquests of the oceans as well as space. Since 1965, the Omega Speedmaster has been worn on each of NASA’s piloted missions including all six moon landings and many of history’s greatest explorations beyond Earth.
As well as this, no brand is more actively involved in sports timekeeping. In addition to partnerships in golf, sailing, athletics and swimming, Omega has served as the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932. This role has not only involved the precise timing of many different sports and disciplines, but also the consistent development and evolution of the vital equipment that today’s athletes rely on.
In watchmaking, Omega’s history has been dedicated to a quest for perfection. This legacy continued in 1999 with the launch of the revolutionary Co-Axial escapement and, in 2015, with the world’s first Master Chronometer. Approved by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), Master Chronometer certification today represents the Swiss industry’s highest standard of precision, magnetic resistance and chronometric performance.
Perhaps the most famous name to choose Omega is James Bond. Since 1995, the spy and his Seamaster have been inseparable and the partnership is one of Omega’s most recognized around the world.
The brand’s real-life roster of ambassadors includes George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Cindy Crawford, Eddie Redmayne, Daniel Craig, Zoë Kravitz, Kaia Gerber, Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Michael Phelps, Chad Le Clos, Liu Shishi, Michelle Wie, Buzz Aldrin and Thomas Stafford.
In regards to its social causes, Omega has a dedicated partnership with Orbis International, whose Flying Eye Hospital takes high-quality eye health care to some of the world’s remotest regions. This is in keeping with the brand’s commitment to worthwhile actions and sustainability, which also includes satellite mapping and clean-up projects with ClearSpace and Privateer, as well as Earth-based documentaries with the GoodPlanet Foundation.“
